if the horror of mordor is that it’s a fundamentally dead place, the horror of beleriand under melkor is that it’s alive. every wild thing, every plant, the land itself, all of it can be bent and shaped to the will of that which wants you gone. woods with vines to choke and trap and strangle, bogs replete with depthless pools and paths that lead nowhere and clouds of mosquitoes that can turn your blood to poison. leave a wound in the open air and by nightfall infection will have set in. goats and sheep are born shrivelled and eyeless. springs that if drunk from will bloat your belly and waste you away to nothing. deer watching with too many eyes, boars running mad and foaming even after they’re felled. just endless possibilities for fear and havoc and destruction, and all of it is intended…there is no comfort in the randomness of nature when nature hates you personally
Radical feminism isn’t recuperable if only you just stay away from the overt transphobia. The rhetoric that led to this transphobia is BAKED into radfem philosophy. The positioning of women as ontological victims & men as ontological abusers, the refusal to acknowledge the large amount of interlocking factors that create our social conditions beyond simple asab, the overidentification that acts as though all women are the same & have the same relationship to misogyny & sexism & oppression. The fucking bioessentialism. All of this leads not only to transphobia but down the line it leads to allyship with the right wing in the exact same way that we saw occur in the 80s. Radical feminism is not the fucking way!! as @cabinetmanrei said, just because liberal feminism is a failure doesn’t mean there aren’t other options
see i think what people get caught up in is going “oh this and that are fetish art……hey did you know x thing is a fetish…pretty crazy right…..this piece of art is actually a fetish for the artist……..” and like. see the problem is thinking that devalues the art. i don’t think something being a fetish or sexual in nature or whatever actually detracts from any meaning or emotional weight something could have. i don’t think “horny” is a worthless or meaningless emotion and i don’t see why exploring it in art is any different from “sadness” or “happiness” or “anger”. does that make sense? im just sayin we should examine why we view sexuality as inherently detracting/meaning less in art than other things
